Building Europe’s 6G Future: Sequans’ Role in the Hexa‑X‑II Flagship Program

We are excited to highlight our role in Hexa‑X‑II, Europe’s flagship 6G research program, coordinated by Nokia, which brings together 44 leading organizations across telecom, semiconductors, and research to shape the foundations of 6G.

Hexa‑X‑II is a cornerstone initiative for Europe, delivering the end‑to‑end 6G system blueprint and driving early validation of the technologies that will define our digital infrastructure in the 2030s. The program focuses on sustainability, inclusion, and trustworthiness—ensuring future networks deliver secure, energy‑efficient, and socially responsible connectivity.

Highlight on Sequans’ Role

Within this prestigious consortium, Sequans plays a pivotal role by bringing deep expertise in cellular IoT modem technology, explicitly recognized within the program as a key enabler for the evolution of massive IoT and connected intelligence in the 6G era.

Our contributions include:

Sequans develops cost‑efficient and ultra‑low‑power 5G IoT modems that form the technological foundation for IoT at scale in future 6G networks—where billions of connected devices must operate reliably with minimal energy consumption.

Sequans is embedding AI‑driven capabilities directly into its modem platforms to enable smarter, more adaptive, and more autonomous connected devices—building on real‑world IoT deployments already active today.

By embedding intelligence at the modem level, Sequans contributes to Hexa‑X‑II’s vision of AI‑native, trustworthy, and energy‑efficient networks, bridging today’s large‑scale IoT deployments with tomorrow’s 6G connected intelligence.

Scaling 5G IoT toward the 6G blueprint

Hexa‑X‑II places strong emphasis on the evolution of cellular IoT, and Sequans contributes technologies that enable denser device deployments, enhanced communication reliability, and increased system intelligence—key steps toward large‑scale IoT readiness for 6G.

Trust & security for large‑scale IoT

Through intelligent modem features and resilient communication behaviors, Sequans supports the program’s objective of building trustworthy‑by‑design 6G architectures, where IoT security, privacy, and resilience are foundational requirements.

Why this matters for Europe

Hexa‑X‑II is not just another research project—it is the strategic foundation for Europe’s leadership in the next communication era. Supported by the EU’s SNS JU / Horizon Europe framework, the program ensures that European values—security, sustainability, and digital inclusion—are embedded at the core of global 6G development.

By contributing intelligent, energy‑efficient IoT platforms, Sequans helps ensure Europe is not only shaping 6G standards, but also building the technological base that will power future connected devices and applications.

Conclusion

As Europe lays the groundwork for 6G, success will depend not only on visionary system architectures, but on concrete, deployable technologies that already prove their value in the field. By bridging today’s large‑scale IoT deployments with AI‑native, secure, and energy‑efficient communication platforms, Sequans helps turn Europe’s 6G ambition into a tangible industrial reality.

Hexa‑X‑II is about more than defining the next generation of networks—it is about ensuring Europe remains technologically sovereign, industrially competitive, and aligned with its core values. Sequans is proud to contribute proven expertise, real‑world innovation, and trusted IoT technologies to help shape a connected future that is intelligent, resilient, and built to last.
