First Sample of Calliope SQN4530 eRedCap FD/HD Chipset

We are pleased to share that we have received the first sample of the Calliope™ 3 SQN4530 chip, our new 5G NR eRedCap cellular IoT platform and the third generation of our flagship Calliope chipset family.

The SQN4530 is designed to support eRedCap Full Duplex (FD) and Half Duplex (HD) operation, with integrated 4G LTE fallback, enabling devices to seamlessly connect across both next-generation 5G networks and existing 4G deployments. This flexibility makes SQN4530 ideally suited for a broad range of IoT applications.

This milestone represents a significant step forward in Sequans’ next-generation 5G roadmap, reinforcing our commitment to delivering low-power, cost‑optimized, purpose-built 5G solutions for IoT.

A Key Milestone in Our eRedCap Roadmap

The arrival of first silicon marks a critical achievement in any semiconductor program. For SQN4530, it confirms the successful execution of our architecture, design, and manufacturing phases, and opens the door to the next stage of development.

With sample chips now available, Sequans’ engineering teams have begun comprehensive bring-up and characterization activities, including:

These efforts are focused on ensuring that SQN4530 meets the high standards of reliability, efficiency, and performance expected by our customers and partners worldwide.

As development progresses, we will share additional updates on key milestones, ecosystem readiness, and product availability.

Addressing the eRedCap Opportunity

Enhanced Reduced Capability (eRedCap) is designed to bridge the gap between traditional low-power 4G IoT technologies and full-featured 5G NR devices. It delivers an optimized balance of capability, cost, and power consumption, enabling a new class of connected devices to benefit from evolving 5G networks without the complexity and expense of full 5G NR implementations.

With support for FD and HD operation, SQN4530 addresses diverse deployment requirements while enabling scalable designs across industrial and enterprise IoT use cases.

Built on Sequans’ Proven Expertise in IoT and 5G

SQN4530 builds on Sequans’ long-standing leadership in cellular connectivity. Sequans began investing in its 5G technology roadmap as early as 2020, leveraging decades of experience in cellular modem development and low-power system architecture.

In 2022, Sequans successfully licensed its 5G technology to a strategic partner, validating both the maturity of its architecture and the strength of its intellectual property portfolio.

Calliope 3 SQN4530 builds directly on this foundation, reflecting Sequans’ continued focus on delivering highly integrated, power-efficient solutions tailored to the evolving needs of IoT and specialized broadband markets.

Looking Ahead

The receipt of the SQN4530 sample is more than a technical milestone—it underscores Sequans’ commitment to shaping the future of 5G for IoT and beyond. With support for eRedCap, FD/HD operation, and 4G fallback, Calliope 3 SQN4530 is designed to enable scalable, future‑proof connectivity across a broad and growing range of applications.

We are excited about what lies ahead and look forward to working closely with our partners and customers as SQN4530 progresses toward commercialization.
