Sequans Calliope Cat 1bis Platform Now Supports Jamming Detection and MQTT v5

A Layered Security Model for Resilient IoT Connectivity

Sequans Calliope Cat 1bis platform (SQN3530 chipset and GC02S1 module) now combines MQTT v5 support with built-in RF jamming detection.

As IoT systems expand into critical applications – smart cities, industrial automation, utilities, and connected vehicles – security and availability are essential. Modern IoT connectivity must withstand both cyber threats and radiofrequency (RF) jamming.

Two complementary layers address these challenges:

Together, they enable resilient, end-to-end IoT security.

MQTT v5: Protocol-Level Security

MQTT v5 strengthens IoT messaging security with:

Result: Secure, authenticated, and observable data exchange.

Jamming Detection and Response: From Module to Product

Module-Level Jamming Detection

Modules detect jamming by monitoring key RF indicators while attached to the network, including RSRP, RSRQ, RSSI and CINR. A jamming condition is suspected when multiple degraded RF conditions occur simultaneously. Detection relies on consistent observation over multiple measurement intervals to minimize false positives.

When suspected jamming is confirmed, the module issues a notification to the host.

Role of the module: Detect and report potential jamming events with reliable RF-level indicators.

Why Both Layers Matter

Combining MQTT v5, module-level jamming detection, and product-level mitigation ensures availability, security, and operational continuity.
