Sequans Summer Update: Building the Next Generation of Cellular IoT and Software-Defined Radio Technologies

This has been a season of milestones for Sequans — across our product roadmap, our technology leadership, and our partner ecosystem.

On the silicon side, our new Calliope™ 3 SQN4530 — the third generation of our flagship Calliope platform and our first 5G NR eRedCap chip — has reached first sample, marking a major step toward bringing next-generation cellular IoT connectivity to market.

We’re also helping shape what comes after 5G. Through Hexa-X-II, Europe’s flagship 6G research initiative, and the newly launched 6G-MIRAI-HARMONY program with Japan, Sequans is working alongside leading telecom, semiconductor, and research organizations to lay the groundwork for AI-native, user-centric 6G networks.

Security and technology choice are also front of mind for customers deploying today. The EU Cyber Resilience Act is redefining requirements for connected devices ahead of its September 2026 and December 2027 milestones.

Our partner network keeps expanding as well, bringing new capabilities across energy, industrial, and asset-tracking applications. New partners are enabling GNSS-based tracking that balances positioning accuracy with ultra-low power consumption, and our expanded MIKROE collaboration now includes an LTE Cat 1bis Click board built on Sequans’ Calliope technology.

Beyond cellular IoT, our Iris™ SQN9506 RF transceiver continues to prove its versatility in mission-critical and defense applications. Our latest white paper explores how Iris is powering high-performance SDR platforms — from drones to smart cells — and why it’s becoming a strategic building block for modern defense systems.

And as satellite connectivity moves from concept to reality, a second new white paper unpacks the landscape of NTN, Direct-to-Cell, and Direct-to-Device approaches — essential reading for anyone mapping out a satellite IoT strategy.

Read on for the details, and we hope to see you at one of our upcoming events.

We are pleased to share that we have received the first sample of the Calliope™ 3 SQN4530 chip, our new 5G NR eRedCap cellular IoT platform and the third generation of our flagship Calliope chipset family. Read more

We are excited to highlight our role in Hexa‑X‑II, Europe’s flagship 6G research program, coordinated by Nokia, which brings together 44 leading organizations across telecom, semiconductors, and research to shape the foundations of 6G. Read more

September 2026 and December 2027: Two Milestones That Will Redefine IoT Security in Europe

The European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is reshaping cybersecurity requirements for connected devices, especially cellular IoT products such as smart meters, industrial gateways, trackers, telematics systems, and connected medical devices. Read more

As IoT projects move from proof of concept to large‑scale deployment, one question keeps coming back:
Which cellular technology should I choose?

LTE Cat‑M has a well‑established ecosystem and track record, while LTE Cat‑1 bis is rapidly emerging to address use cases where bandwidth and performance requirements exceed typical Cat‑M capabilities, and where standard LTE coverage is available even in regions without dedicated Cat‑M support.

Today, Sequans is expanding its collaboration with MIKROE to make that choice easier, by removing the risk of making the wrong one. Read more

From energy to industrialization, new partners extend the reach of the Sequans ecosystem

When we introduced the Sequans Partner Network in July 2025, the goal was clear: help customers accelerate their IoT journey by connecting them with an ecosystem of trusted partners across the value chain.

Today, that vision is expanding. Read more

The 6G‑MIRAI‑HARMONY program is a flagship initiative reflecting the deepening strategic cooperation between Europe and Japan to shape the foundations of next‑generation wireless networks. Launched under the EU–Japan Digital Partnership, it brings together leading industrial players, research institutes, and universities from both regions to jointly advance AI‑native, user‑centric 6G technologies. Rather than parallel national efforts, the program is conceived as a single, coordinated cross‑regional initiative, accelerating innovation from fundamental research through early standardization. In this context, 6G‑MIRAI stands for “Machine Intelligence‑based Radio Access Infrastructure.” Read more

As global supply chains and smart asset management scale rapidly, the demand for highly reliable, real-time tracking devices is surging. However, designers face a fundamental trade-off: achieving consistent GNSS positioning accuracy in complex RF environments—like urban canyons—while maintaining sub-milliamp average power consumption. Traditional architectures, which stitch together disconnected modems, GNSS receivers, and power management logic, inevitably lead to standby current inefficiencies, complex wake-up coordination, and extended time-to-market.  Read more

Strategic Path to Satellite Connectivity for IoT Devices

Satellite IoT is moving from vision to reality, but terms such as NTN, Direct-to-Cell, and Direct-to-Device are often used interchangeably despite describing very different approaches.

This white paper introduces a practical framework for understanding today’s satellite IoT landscape, comparing standardized 3GPP NTN, carrier-integrated satellite cellular, and proprietary satellite solutions. It explores the technical, regulatory, and ecosystem considerations behind each model and examines how future hybrid architectures enabled by NTN eRedCap may reshape connectivity strategies.
